The EA Journal.

The first international peer-reviewed journal dedicated exclusively to research on effective altruism, founded by our own Justinian.

The Journal of Effective Altruism (ISSN 3136-294X) is the first international peer-reviewed journal dedicated exclusively to research on effective altruism. It was founded by our own member Justinian, and welcomes contributors from any background.

Research on how to do the most good is growing fast across philosophy, economics, psychology, global health, animal welfare, AI governance, and beyond. Yet much of it is scattered across disciplines, working papers, and forum posts. The journal brings this work into a rigorous common home: one place where researchers across EA-related disciplines can publish, find each other's work, collaborate, and build a community, while making EA scholarship more visible and easier to follow.

The journal welcomes work from all perspectives, including research that develops, discusses, applies, or challenges the ideas of effective altruism. Researchers at every career stage are welcome: undergraduates, graduate students, and researchers outside universities. No previous experience necessary.

What you can submit

  • Research articles: original contributions

  • Discussion pieces: replies, commentaries, and arguments

  • Literature reviews: surveys of the literature on an EA-related topic

  • Book reviews

Word limits are very flexible. Submit your manuscript to editorial@journal-ea.com.

Other ways to contribute

Beyond submitting papers, the journal needs help with design, outreach, proofreading, peer review (PhD-candidate level or a strong research background required), communications, and more. Send inquiries or apply to editorial@journal-ea.com or justiniansu@uchicago.edu.
