Longtermist Policy Working Group

• Led by: Michelle Ma (mma02@uchicago.edu) and Miranda Zhang (starmz@uchicago.edu)

• The Meta-EA Communications Working Group has the goal of testing different ways of messaging effective altruism to figure out the most effective strategies.

• Currently: Drafting two proposals for message testing experiments to increase recruitment success. In talks with the EA Market Testing Team and actively seeking collaborators from other EA university groups.

• Led by: Matthew Margo (margom@purdue.edu)

• A cross-university partnership between Northwestern, UChicago, UMichigan, and UW-Madison. 

• In Spring 2022, the Midwest EA group organized an exclusive impactful careers retreat.

• Led by: Zachary Rudolph (zrudolph@uchicago.edu)

• The Longtermist Policy Working Group has the goal of building expertise for careers in areas of longtermist concern (AI policy, long-term institutions, biosecurity, etc.), providing ongoing programming for EAs past the initial introductory stages, and hopefully fostering collaborative responses to some open questions in the literature.

• Currently: Hosting a weekly reading group of The Long View, joined by guests who have contributed to the book, such as Lord Martin Rees. Extensive knowledge of the topic isn’t required; everyone is welcome to participate!
